What it measures
The final pass or action before a goal, credited to the player who made it. It is the single most provider-dependent statistic in fantasy football — rebounds, deflections and shots that force an own goal are treated differently by different data suppliers.
How the mainstream game treats it
A flat 3 points regardless of position, using a definition that is more generous than most providers — it credits some rebounds and deflected efforts that a stricter feed would not.
How to score it in your league
A per-action rule. Position weighting is unusual here, since an assist is roughly as hard from anywhere on the pitch, but nothing stops you paying defenders more for one if you want to reward attacking full-backs.
A sensible starting value
3 is the familiar number and sits sensibly below a goal. Equalising goals and assists is a legitimate design choice that makes creators as valuable as finishers — it just makes the league quite different.
Watch out for
If you also score chances created and big chances created, one goal can pay three times over. Decide which layer of the same event you are rewarding.
